Children’s Auditions for Winter Revels

Be a part of a spectacular holiday tradition seen by thousands of people each December!
Washington Revels announces children’s auditions for Winter Revels—An American Celebration on Friday, Friday, September 18 (5:30 p.m.) and Saturday, September 19 (10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.). Call-backs take place on Sunday, September 20 at 2pm
It’s December 1870 in Washington, D.C., and Christmas Eve in the parlor of a new Senator’s home. But this is no ordinary politician–it’s Hiram Rhodes Revels, the nation’s first African American Senator, and he and wife Phoebe are gathering friends and family–from worlds spanning the streets of Capitol Hill to the opera houses of Europe–to celebrate the season. Candles are lit; the table is set; and the band is ready. Who knew solving a mystery would be on the menu?
As the guests–some legendary–gather under the Revels family roof, they meet strangers from a faraway isle; hear the contents of a mysterious letter; and help find a precious gift. In the midst of celebration, the revelers learn about long journeys, witness new beginnings, and experience the power of love, family, friendship, and freedom.
This 44th winter production, which marks the 250th birthday of the nation, will feature our own Jubilee Voices, along with the renowned Whisky Before Breakfast Band; the beloved Washington Revels Brass, and our 75-member multigenerational chorus. Enjoy a vibrant mosaic of familiar carols, stirring spirituals; nostalgic parlor tunes; traditional folk songs, toe-tapping dances; and rousing instrumentals, along with the audience participation that makes Winter Revels so special.
Washington Revels children love to sing, are enthusiastic about bringing music to life on stage, and come from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and experience levels.
Audition signups will be available in mid-August.
