Songs, stories, and traditions
Washington Revels vocal ensemble perform year-round, celebrating the history and culture of the Washington metropolitan area and beyond. These groups revive and present traditional material authentically, engaging communities at historic sites, festivals, concert series, and galleries.
A select group of vocalists performing a tapestry of musical styles: Medieval, Renaissance, Early American hymns and folk songs, 19th and 20th-century part-songs.
A multicultural ensemble presenting 18th- and 19th-century American music in historical venues and concert halls — often collaborating with the Roustabout String Band.
An ensemble presenting African American songs and stories of struggle, perseverance, trials, triumphs, as expressed through a cappella vocal music and narratives.

About the Maritime Voices Ensemble
Recently, the long-time leader of Maritime Voices, Mike Matheson, retired and relocated out of state. Absent an ensemble leader who specializes in the genre, Washington Revels is unable to offer bookings at this time. However, we would note that Maritime Voices is considered inactive, not dissolved. We deeply value the ensemble’s contributions and legacy, and we look forward to the possibility of its return. Once a new artistic leader is identified, rehearsals are re-established, and the group is ready to perform again, we will gladly restore Maritime Voices to our roster and promote their work to presenters and audiences.
