The Journey Continues
This year, Washington Revels, in collaboration with the Office of Historic Alexandria’s Division of African American History, presents a Juneteenth program filled with storytelling, songs, and more.
The program starts at 1 p.m. with David Olawuyi Fakunle, a dynamic storyteller who blends his African percussionist training with stories, songs and movements to bring the African oral tradition to life.
The celebration continues at 2 p.m., with a new Jubilee Voices concert that focuses on how love—of family, faith, community and country—helped sustain African Americans during in times of chaos and conflict. Enjoy songs, stories, spoken word audience participation and more as Jubilee Voices returns to Old Town Alexandria to “sing the journey!”
