Pesach, or Passover, is one of the most important holidays on the Jewish calendar. It celebrates the exodus from enslavement in Egypt. We honor the suffering and strength of our ancestors through symbolic foods and by retelling the story to the next generation. Food is a big part of the holiday for many folks, especially since we are prohibited from eating chametz, leavened bread, and instead must only eat matzah. Many other traditions, especially songs, have developed over the generations, but the most important part of the seder, the order of rituals, is the story itself. The story teaches us that we were once slaves, and we must fight for justice and freedom, until no one is enslaved.
